This department was previously working as the pathology department when this institution was functioning as a Medical school since 1925 but there after this Medical school was upgraded to full fledged medical College in 1946.
After some time pathology department was separated and the clinical pathology department was running as it was previously.
When I joined this department as Assistant clinical pathologist in December 1987 , it was in a cradle stage and very limited investigations were being carried out by old conventional methods.
I tried my level best to improve the working condition of the department and more or less I succeeded. I procured Fully automatic haematology analyser, Fully automatic blood chemistry analyser, Fully automatic immuno- assay analyser , Automatic ESR analyser , Urine analyser, Electrolytes analyser and Automatic glycosylated haemoglobin analyser ( HPLC) at the same time I am pursuing for Electrophoresis analyser Fully automatic, Fully automatic blood coagulation analyser and a P C R machine for the accurate diagnosis of Leukaemia etc.
Not only that I am in a process to establish L I S ( Local interface system) facility for the sake of the patients and the department so that within a very short time and with less man power, right from the data entry of the patients to distribution of reports to the patients, investigation reports could be provided to the patients.
But all these could have been possible only with the kind efforts and support of our dynamic present Superintendent and Principal Dr R R Prasad and Dr H N Jha respectively.
The building of this department is very old and was in a very dilapidated condition, however It could have been renovated with the kind support of our the then dynamic Principal cum Superintendent of this institution Dr S P Singh. A fabricated shade was constructed by our present Superintendent Dr Prasad.
But still there are so many vital problems that is – No separate toilets for ladies e gents patients, Acute shortage of technicians ,sweepers , Specialist pathologists ( M D in pathy) ,No proper water supply for performing investigations and also drinking water for patients staffs and doctors.
No independent campus and night gaurds..
If at least , these things could be provided at the government level, the department will definitely run very smoothly and could be accredited by the N A B L.
I do wish further all-round development of this department.
Dr Shyamal Kishore Singh.
